Library Services at Piedmont College

Overview of Library Services: For students and faculty wherever they are located and for students and faculty at the Demorest and Athens campuses.

For all students & faculty

All students and faculty of Piedmont College, wherever they are located, have full library privileges and access to the physical collections of the Arrendale Library in Demorest and also to an extensive array of online research materials and tools. This includes online access to librarians for research assistance and for instruction in research and information literacy skills.

Recognizing the expectations of contemporary academic library users, the Library uses online services and tools to make its services, assistance, and research resources available when users want, wherever they are located outside the Arrendale Library, whether in the classroom buildings and dormitories at the Demorest campus, at our campus in Athens, Georgia, or any other location of our online students.

Research materials include printed books and online research services that contain citations to research materials, full-text journal articles, ebooks, and streaming video programs. Research materials are chosen to provide support for all the College's academic programs, at all levels of research and instruction. This first tab to the left, Services for Everyone, describes what's available to every user, irrespective of location.

Off-campus access is facilitated using the OpenAthens user authorization service. (Take a look at the following box to learn more about your OpenAthens account and your College username and password.)

Click on the Services for Demorest tab to learn about features of the Arrendale Library building and the resources and services that available there. Access to physical materials, online services, research materials, and librarian assistance is available at the Arrendale Library whenever the Library is open.

Click on the Services for Athens tab to learn how students and faculty at the Athens campus can use the materials at the Arrendale Library and access the services and resources they need.

Access to Online Research

All students and faculty have access to a broad array of services to assist you with your research and to help you find the full-text journal articles, ebooks, and other materials you need. Whenever you start your online research, you will have to identify yourself as a Piedmont College student to our OpenAthens user identification service. Your username is your Piedmont College Single Sign-on username and your password is your Single Sign-on password.   • If are new to the College and have received your College email address, your next step is to setup your permanent password for the Webadvisor system. That's how you setup your password for all College systems. Here is more information about how to do that.
  • If you have forgotten already set your College Single-Sign-On password, but your password isn't working, you should use the Password Reset at Webadvisor

Begin your work from the Library homepage or the Online Research A-Z pages. When conducting research from off campus, you'll be prompted by OpenAthens, the Library's off-campus user identification system, to identify yourself. You do not need a GALILEO password to use the Library's online services.

Chat with Us!

Most times that the Library is open, someone is available for online chat. There is a chat widget available on every Library webpage and within many of our online research services pages too.

Ask a Librarian!

All students can use the Ask a Librarian! service to obtain assistance that is less immediate than chat or a phone call. Types of questions appropriate for this type of online assistance are bibliographic sources and other short answer requests. We will provide direct answers when possible, but sometimes we may suggest sources or search strategies for you to use. The Ask a Librarian! service has a goal of answering requests within 48 hours.

We may ask to contact you by telephone or by Zoom when your question leads to a complex answer that may be more easily addressed by phone or Zoom than in writing.

Books and EBooks

Access to the MAYFLOWER, The Library's Online Catalog

You can use the Arrendale Library's online catalog, the MAYFLOWERto locate the printed books available in the Arrendale Library. You can also find and access ebooks and streaming video programs using the MAYFLOWER that you can access from home or anywhere. Off-campus users should be prepared to give your OpenAthens username and password so you can use the ebooks and other licensed resources accessible from inside the MAYFLOWER.

Students and faculty at the Athens campus and all remote students and faculty can use this online form to request that printed books that they find in the Library's collection be sent to Athens or mailed to them for use.

Interlibrary Loan

All students have full access to the Interlibrary Loan Service and can request journal articles or books from Piedmont College Library or from other libraries for their use. Please refer to the Interlibrary Loan homepage for full information and to access your ILL account and online request forms.
