Working Online

This LibGuide answers many frequently asked questions about how to have the best experience when accessing and working with online materials.

Access Resources Off-Campus Using Ezproxy

EZproxy identifies you as a member of the Piedmont College community when you want to work with online services off-campus. Licensing agreements for subscription services require that access be extended only to authorized users. Authorized users include only currently registered students and current faculty and staff of Piedmont College. You can login to Ezproxy with the Single Sign-on username and password that you already know.

Click on this link to test your username and password.

Ezproxy Bookmarklet

This “bookmarklet” for EZproxy allows you to ask EZproxy for access to a website that contains licensed material when you're off-campus, via the Piedmont College EZproxy service.

When you're off-campus and you arrive at a site or a page that requires licensed access, like this Article on JSTOR, click on your EZproxy bookmarklet.  EZproxy will ask you to login, and you will then be redirected to the EZproxied version of the site’s url. You'll have access to the article and can search on JSTOR.

The EZproxy bookmarklet will work with any licensed service to which the Library provides you access. But the Library doesn't license access to every article or other service that you might encounter on the web. But if you need an article to which that you don't have direct access, the Library can almost always obtain it for you through Interlibrary Loan.

Ezproxy It!

To install the EZproxy bookmarklet, drag the EZproxy It! link to your browser’s Bookmark toolbar. This will work with all the recent versions of Windows and OS X.

  • Internet Explorer v.8 and higher:  Hover the cursor over the EZproxy It! bookmarklet link shown above.  Right-click and select "Add to Favorites".  You might see a security alert that the "favorite may not be safe". We assure you that it is safe! Click "yes" to continue. It is easiest if you add it to your "Links" folder within your "Favorites" To ensure that your "Links" toolbar is displayed at the top of your browser window: Tools -> Toolbars -> Links.
  • Firefox v.15 and higher: Left-click and drag the bookmarklet link to your Bookmarks toolbar, or right-click on the link and select "Bookmark This Link."
  • Safari, v. 5 and higher; or Google Chrome, any recent version: left-click and drag the bookmarklet link to your Bookmarks toolbar.
  • Javascript must be enabled in your browser, which is usually the case unless you have consciously disabled it.
